How do I help my toddler get over his fear of the changing table?

For some reason, he’s terrified. He’s 2 1/2 and he shakes & screams when he’s place on one. I’ve never dropped him from one or anything, so that’s not a reason. It’s so terrible now that he HOLDS his bowel movements at daycare so that he won’t be place on it. He gets home in the afternoon & immediately poops. They’ve gone so far as to try to change him standing up at daycare but he still holds it. I am slowly working on potty training because he’s reluctant but this is a huge problem. HELP! Thanks!
The more pressing issue I need help with is what to do about him holding his bowel movements all day. Any thoughts?

you should start changing him on the ground across the room from the changing table. slowly go him closer to the changing table each day. if he is reluctant stay at the same spot then while changing push him a small to the side. sooner or later he’ll get up on the changing table.
If this is happening at day care, tell them to use a bed or mat on the floor.
use pull ups and question him to try changing the diaper himself i.e question him to take it off and clean him up standing in the bath tub and let him wear the new one himself as he learns he will be more interested. Also helps to potty train later.
Time to start potty trainning.
